Desktop Basics
Desktop is what you see on the computer screen. You can customize the settings on the desktop
This is what a typical desktop looks like except this one is on my computer


Bitmap Image

There are many icons on this desktop. We are going to discuss a few ones here. Most of the icons are software programs like Microsoft Access, VB and Netscape Communicator. Then there are few others like My Computer, Network Neighborhood and Recycle Bin. Lets take a look at few of these


My Computer:

This icon gives you information about your machine. If you look below this is what my computer looks like

Bitmap Image

As you can see, I have a floppy drive, couple of hard drives, two CD Roms and some other icons. When you click on these icons e.g. Control Panel, it will take you there directly.


Network Neighborhood:

The Network Neighborhood will display all the computers on your network. If you are not on a network, it will give you an error. The network lets you access files and folders on machines you have access to. Also you may choose to share your files with other people in your team. When I click on this icon on my computer, I get this picture.
